In 1995, Gold Star was acquired by Walmart, (Then known as Wal-Mart) and all Gold Star Discount stores would be rebranded as Wal-Mart stores.

In 2008, Walmart said they would roll out a new logo. The yellow star was changed to blue, to make it reflect the colors of the El Kadsre flag, and the byline "El Kadsre" was added.
