WWSR-TV is a commercial-free television station licensed to and located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is affiliated with the ad-supported preschool channel Sprout. It broadcasts on channel 63, and is owned by WWSR-TV Partnership, a joint venture between Viacom Media Networks and NBCUniversal, which also owns WCAU-TV. Originally the station, which began broadcasting in 1977, was a independent station until 1988 and Nick Jr until 2005, and it was also owned by Williams Broadcasting, which also owns WKFC-TV (channel 46) in Grand Rapids and other stations across the nation, until 1988, and Nick Jr Television Stations until 2005 of which a 50/50 joint venture of Viacom and NBC purchased the station and became affiliated with Sprout.
It was based on the early 1980's Star TV logo, but instead of "TV", it read "63"
