On February 4, 1980, WPOW-TV debuted on the air as WNYL-TV, becoming Quisqueya Communications' first television station. WNYL-TV ran a 24/7 telenovela format as "Romance 29."
1982-1986[]

WVIV-TV[]
1990-1992[]
In 1990, WNYL-TV changed its callsign to WVIV-TV and began rolling out its new branding as "Nuevo 29." With this new change, the telenovelas were replaced with a music-intensive format with newscasts at 11am, 6pm and 11pm. The genres aired on "Nuevo 29" were Salsa and Merengue with a hint of Freestyle.
1992-1994[]
1994-1995[]
In September 1994, Quisqueya announced it would phase out much of WVIV-TV music programming, with local talk shows and telenovelas during the day while the music format remained during evenings, nights, and weekends.
1995-2003[]
On January 1, 1995, WVIV-TV got a completely new logo and was rebranded as "Viva 29." In May 1999, Quisqueya added Spanish Adult Contemporary music from 3am to 12pm on weekends.
WPOW-TV[]
2003-2009[]
On June 12, 2003, WVIV-TV flipped to a mix of a Spanish Contemporary music format branded as "Power 29" with a telenovela block daily from 10am to 1pm called "Poder Romántico." The station's call sign was changed to WPOW-TV shortly after.
