WKNY-TV is a commercial-free television station located in New York City, New York, and it is affiliated with various American and Canadian cable and sattelite networks (YTV, The Zone, MGM Channel and Disney Channel). It operates on channel 31 and is owned by Nintendo which is the one of the television stations to be owned by a video game publisher. It began broadcasting in late-1978 as a independent station. Nintendo purchased WKNY-TV in 1990.
WKNY-TV offers the complete YTV, The Zone, MGM Channel and Disney Channel programming schedule, plus complete uninterrupted playthroughs of Nintendo, Namco, and Gaelco games, and original television and video game programming produced exclusively for WKNY-TV viewers. From 1994 to 2002, WKNY-TV also aired complete uninterrupted playthroughs of Rareware games as part of the Rareware deal with Nintendo.
The new logo is launched as WKNY-TV becomes a Disney Channel affiliate in 1983, and rebranded as "The Disney Channel 31" or "WKNY 31".
YTV was added to the station, rebranded as "YTV / The Disney Channel 31"
Nintendo purchased the station, but making it owned by Nintendo.
MGM Channel was added, rebranded as "YTV/Disney Channel/MGM 31".
