1995-2007[]
1995-1998[]
WKBS-TV first broadcast on September 7, 1995 on channel 19 UHF as the satellite channel WPSG (which before December 1995 was still called WGBS) and is also owned by the Paramount Stations Group, considering that WKBS-TV has since entered as a satellite station directly affiliated with UPN. WKBS-TV essentially aired UPN programming which preceded WGBS with local news provided by WCAU, NBC's affiliate station in Philadelphia, until 2005.
1998-2002[]
In 2000, Paramount parent Viacom purchased CBS, resulting in WKBS-TV (and WPSG) becoming sister channels to longtime rival and CBS station O&O KYW-TV. However, 2 years later, Fox Television Stations bought the station from Viacom, resulting in WKBS-TV becoming a sister channel to WTXF-TV (which Fox had acquired from Paramount/Viacom since 1995).

Following the announcement of the shut down of UPN (whose programming would be merged with The WB to form The CW), all Fox-owned UPN stations, including WKBS-TV, dropped the UPN name and logo from their on-air branding. Although WKBS-TV was rumored to become an affiliate of MyNetworkTV as announced in February 2006, that was unlikely to happen when MNTV chose to sign its affiliation with WPHL-TV (channel 17) owned by Tribune Broadcasting and Fox chose the latter route to convert WKBS-TV to satellite stations from WTXF-TV (channel 29) broadcasting on the UHF band. The transition took place from March - September 2006, with WKBS-TV airing some of the programming that preceded WTXF-TV including expansion of network news, with UPN programming airing on dual stations WPSG/WKBS-TV changed to airing only on WPSG (channel 57)
2006-2007[]
On September 6, 2006, WKBS-TV became a satellite station of WTXF-TV and became a Fox affiliate. After completing its transition, WKBS-TV airs all of Fox's programming and the rest of MyNetworkTV's programming, including relaying WTXF's news programming and remaining local news 7pm, 8-9pm and 11pm.
2007-2015[]
In July 2014, Fox Television Stations announced their intention to trade the station to MBN Broadcasting Station, network parent (and rival) Mein Corporation's MBN, in exchange for the acquisition of a network station in Connecticut WANS-TV. The sale was briefly canceled on August 6, 2014 when FTS chose to keep WKBS due to financial issues, but Fox-MBN finally finalized the deal on September 2 following FCC approval, whereupon FTS agreed to sell the station to MBN with WANS-TV removed from the deal to comply with FCC rules that prohibit networks from having two stations in the same market and to avoid unwanted affiliate swaps in Connecticut, keeping WANS-TV under the ownership of MTS. The sale was completed on October 8, 2014 (the day FTS completed the acquisition of KTVU & KICU), resulting in WKBS-TV becoming a Philadelphia station owned and operated by MBN although the station had to wait for its affiliate contract with Fox to expire in early 2015. The station's editorial and news divisions were maintained by FTS (through WTXF-TV) until 2015.
2015-2019[]
Then on January 1, 2015 at the start of the new year, WKBS-TV became an affiliate of MBN making it the first station owned by Mein Corporation to switch affiliations from Fox (aka another network) to MBN, with its news division moving to MBN on March 5, 2015. WKBS-TV has since begun using the network's converted "MBN 19" branding, which aligns with other MBN-owned stations.
2019-2023[]
On September 9, 2019, WKBS-TV introduced its new logo to line up with the new logos for other MBN-owned stations while bringing back the iconic "19" logo from 2007-2014 when the station was still affiliated with Fox.
2023-present[]
On January 20, 2023, as a result of the impact of WNMZ-TV's takeover of the MBN affiliate, WKBS-TV became an independent station. This comes after ComMedia (a company that owns the divested assets of Mein Corporation, the network's owner) bought WKBS-TV along with two other stations (WGMN-TV in South Florida and KYBA-TV in the Bay Area) on January 19, 2023.
