As a result of the criticism, La Cinq unveiled its new mascots, Tommy Metal, in 2007. They were a band of anthropomorphic jungle animals playing in a heavy metal band. They remain the station mascots to this day.

La Cinq unveiled its new look on New Year's Day 2003. The look was designed jointly by Lambie-Nairn and Novocom and it revolved around the use of grayscale, apparatus and equipment used in the field of television, and "dreamy" ambient sounds. The five dots refer to the number 5, the network's VHF channel number.

The new look creeped out many viewers and the on-air branding was said to have been inspiration for the visuals in Robin Sloan and Matt Johnson's Flash movie EPIC 2014.
