KVEN-TV Signed on the air on March 16, 1983 as an affiliate of NBC. The “SE7EN” logo was also used by WNEV-TV (now WHDH) in Boston.

In 1994, KVEN-TV became an exclusive ABC affiliate after the station chose to move the NBC affiliation to KBIL-TV (Channel 14) in response to the station choosing not to renew its affiliation contract with NBC due to scheduling problems. KBIL-TV signed an affiliation contract with NBC prior to the affiliation switch.

In 2019, KVEN-TV was sold to the E.W. Scripps Company after owner Raycom Media merged its assets to Gray Television. This made KVEN-TV a sister station of KRIS-TV (Channel 6) in Corpus Christi. KVEN also ditched its longtime “Circle 7” logo (also used by most ABC O&O stations) and also ditched its longtime “Region 7 News” branding in favor of a more modern logo and a new branding known as “ABC 7 News”
