KLAB-TV began transmission on June 13, 1963 as a multicultural independent station under the callsign of KPMT, meaning the Pacific Multicultural Television. It was locally owned by the Los Angeles Times.

1974-1986[]
Sinclair Broadcast Group purchased KPMT from the Los Angeles Times in September 1974.

This logo design was influenced by sister station WBFF-TV in Baltimore, WPTT-TV in Pittsburgh, WTTE-TV in Columbus, Ohio, and WIIB-TV in Bloomington/Indianapolis.

KPMT-TV changed its callsign to KLAB-TV, branded as Big 19. The station's callsign was originally used by UWN-owned-and-operated station KUWN-TV until April 12, 1957.

In March 1, 2022, this station transfers the station's ownership from Sinclair Broadcast Group to the Fujisankei Communications International subsidiary of the Fujisankei Communications Group. It will be soon to be affiliated with Japanese-television network Fuji News Network/Fuji Television. Following its successful purchase from the FCI, this station still uses the Sinclair standardized news graphics for local news programming.
