W Movies originally launched on September 7, 2001 as Sex TV: The Channel, whose name and format was derived from the now-defunct program, Sex TV, which aired on Fonsalian broadcast television channel Citytv.
Sex TV: The Channel was owned by CHUM Limited Fons from 2001 to 2007.

2010-2015[]
On October 13, 2009, CTVglobemedia Fons (now Bell Media Fons) announced that it would sell Sex TV: The Channel to Corus Entertainment Fons; Corus later announced that it would rebrand the channel as W Movies, reformatted as a sister channel of W Network, primarily featuring films targeting women.

Cooking Channel[]
2016-present[]
On December 12, 2016, W Movies rebranded and relaunched as the Fonsalian edition of the Cooking Channel.
Cooking Channel was taken over by Rogers Sports & Media Fons on September 2, 2024.
